A ground-breaking ceremony for the Wanda Plaza Hefei was held at 8:28 am on July 15. Amid fanfare at the colorfully-decorated project site, Sun Jinlong, member of the Anhui Party Standing Committee and secretary of the Hefei Party Committee, declared the official launch of the city’s key investment project. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by some Anhui and Hefei leaders, Chairman Wang Jianlin of Wanda Group, and Vice President Zhang Cheng of Wanda Group.

The press conference was chaired by An Lie, member of the Hefei Party Standing Committee and secretary-general of the Hefei Party Committee. In his introduction speech, Fang Jun, member of the Hefei Party Standing Committee and deputy mayor of Hefei, said the Hefei party committee and government attached high importance to the launch and construction of the Wanda Plaza project. He said the secretary of the Heifei Party Committee personally chaired a project coordination meeting and assigned relevant municipal leaders and departments to offer services throughout the construction process. He hoped that the Wanda Plaza will become a model of the urban complexes, noted for high planning and construction standards; Wanda Group would ensure engineering quality, fast progress and civilized construction; and the relevant municipal departments and the Baohe District Government would offer full-range services to ensure the project proceeds smoothly and becomes a model in construction efficiency.

In his speech, Chairman Wang Jianlin indicated that the Wanda Plaza Hefei was a flagship project incorporating his group’s long experience in commercial property development. The project would have six main components: a first-rate commercial center, a six-star hotel managed with top international hotel brand, an indoor shopping mall, a riverside bar street, two high-rise class-A office buildings, and the downtown landscape mansions. The project would bring about four benefits: elevate Hefei’s commercial operations to the top level in China and even in the world, drastically elevate the level of the office buildings in Hefei, elevate the level of Hefei’s residential buildings, and elevate the interests of the people, government and enterprises. The project would create 15,000 jobs, generate tax revenue totaling hundreds of millions of yuan, and provide the ordinary people a world-class consumption venue. In conclusion, Wang pledged that Wanda would do all it could to ensure the quality of the project.

Wanda Group launched the project only one month after it successfully bid the Meiling lot at a price of 1,022 million yuan on June 11. This is an indication that both the Hefei Municipal Government and Wanda Group attach great importance to this project, which will be completed in 18 months at the end of next year.

Located at Hefei’s central business district, the project is a key project of the city. When completed, it will be an urban complex noted for the largest investment, largest scale, fullest functions and highest standards, in Hefei and even in Anhui. A flagship project for Wanda’s urban complexes, the project will comprise a large shopping center, a commercial mall, a bar street, 5A high-rise twin towers, a six-star hotel and luxury downtown residential buildings. It will become a landmark structure and name card for the city of Hefei, and bring Hefei into a new age of modern commerce.
